MEET THE COACHES

 

Dan Mark, Varsity Head Coach

 

Dan Mark enters his 33rd season behind the Stoughton bench in 2013-14. Coach Mark began his Stoughton career as an assistant coach in the 1981-82 season, where he served in that capacity for two years under Ray O'Malley  before taking the head coaching job in 1983-84. Dan has coached the Black Knights for 32 of the 45 years of the program's existence. Prior to coming to Stoughton, Dan coached at BC High as an assistant from 1979-1981. He has actively been involved in off-season coaching, as he has previously coached in the Cranberry Cup High School Summer League in Bridgewater, for Mohawks Youth Hockey, Tri-County Saints Youth Hockey, as well as Hub City Hockey. He currently coaches in the Foxboro Summer League during the off-season and is a USA Level 4 Certified Coach. Coach Mark was a standout player for Stoughton High School, playing on the varsity from 1970 to 1974. He was a captain on the varsity team during his junior and senior year. He then went on to play at UMass Amherst from 1974-1976, followed by Bridgewater State College, in which he was a captain in his senior year. Dan currently teaches social studies at the 8th grade level at the O'Donnell Middle School in Stoughton, a post he has held since 1980. He holds a B.S. in education from Bridgewater State College. Dan is the program liaison for the Stoughton Recreation Department's Summer Program. Coach Mark and his wife Karen live in Easton and have two children, son Greg and  daughter Andrea. Dan's son Greg played for the Oliver Ames varsity squad and currently attends the University of Tampa. His daughter Andrea played field hockey and ran track at Oliver Ames and is currently enrolled at Northeastern University. Additionally, Dan can be found coaching girls field hockey (which he has done since 1982),at Stoughton High, as well as serving as an assistant softball coach. Coach Mark also was assistant baseball coach for Stoughton from 1981 to 1995.

 

Mark Hansen, Goaltenders Coach

 

 

 

 

 

Coach Mark Hansen came to Stoughton from the Foxboro Warriors hockey program, where he coached from 1999-2006. He enters his 7th season with the Stoughton hockey program in 2012-13. Mark has also coached at the youth level with Spitfire Hockey where he has taught goaltending skills, which he is continuing to do while simultaneously working as the Knights goaltending coach. Coach Hansen played for Canton High School from 1971 to 1975 , moving on then to play for Providence College from 1976 to 1979. Originally from Canton, Mark lives in Stoughton now and is self-employed. Mark holds a degree in education from Providence College. He and his his wife Geralyn have three children, son Timothy, and daughters Victoria and Elizabeth.                      

Peter Gilinson, Assistant Coach

 

 

 

 

 

 

Coach Peter Gilinson, a native of Brooklyn New York, enters his 9th season with the Black Knights in 2013-14.

Pete played his college hockey at Bowling Green State University were he was elected captain his senior year, leading his team to a conference championship.

Following graduation, Pete was in the sporting goods business and was heavily involved in manufacturing hockey sticks and equipment for major US college programs and was a pro representative for the NHL and WHA hockey teams.

For several years he successfully ran summer hockey schools in the US ,Canada and Europe.

Today, in addition to his coaching duties Pete is President of Tamarac Sales Inc, a sales agency serving the gift and souvenir industry. Pete has been a resident of Stoughton for over 25 years . He has one daughter, Jennifer, who is a Stoughton resident.
